CEO of Blockchain Donates 10,000 Dollars in Bitcoins

Nicolas Cary, CEO of the Bitcoin wallet Blockchain, has donated 14.5 Bitcoins, worth $10,000, to the University of Puget Sound, the school announced Wednesday. When Cary contacted his alma mater about making a Bitcoin donation, the school wasn’t prepared to accept it. Sherry Mondou, vice president for finance and administration, said even donations in foreign currencies were rare for the university.

“We had not anticipated a gift of digital currency, and our gift acceptance policy was silent on it,” Mondou told Fast Company. “Nic’s gift gave us the opportunity to learn about Bitcoin and the process for accepting donations in this form.” Cary helped answer the university’s questions about Bitcoin and introduced it to the payment processing company BitPay, which was used for the transaction. “We performed our due diligence, and he stood ready to help in any way he could,” she added.

London Theatre Direct to Accept Bitcoin, First in the World

Leading theatre ticket agency London Theatre Direct announced that it is accepting bitcoin payments — aking it the world’s first.

The agency has tapped BitPay for its processing solution and hopes to accept more alternative currencies in the future. The agency says it is “leading the way” in supporting bitcoin and it is providing some of the best theatre London has to offer in exchange for your hard earned Satoshis.

“Bitcoin is an exciting, experimental, decentralized digital currency that enables instant payments to anyone, anywhere in the world. We want to embrace new methods of accepting payments online,”managing director Francis Hellyer said.

“Although Theatreland is typically a little slower on the uptake of newer technologies, we have been pushing very hard over the past few years to set an example to the industry by experimenting with new technologies.”

However, the city still does not yet have a bitcoin ATM, but two firms are planning to install a few machines soon.

Helsinki, Finland – From operating as an internet kiosk on Helsinki Central Train Station‚ Deltacom Finland Oy added attraction to their waning kiosk by vending bitcoin.

From June through August of this past year I backpacked through southern Africa, and the poverty of Zimbabwe really struck me. It’s a country graced with incredible natural beauty, and cursed by decades of misrule. A week later, you’d be down to 7k, and within a month, you would essentially be unable to buy anything.

Reading about an indeterminate number of zeros being added monthly to price tags in a country on another continent is one thing; listening to a woman tell you her child died because the local hospital couldn’t afford to stock simple antibiotics is another entirely. The emotional weight of her story was such that for the rest of the day, I wandered around the town feeling like I’d been hit by a truck. Surely there must be a way to prevent something like this from happening again?

The hyperinflation that crippled the Zimbabwean economy was not the product of some greater, unstoppable economic force. It was the direct result of currency manipulation and irresponsible printing of money. The Mugabe government did so to finance wars in the Congo, pay off debts, and inflate the salaries of high-ranking military and government officials.

PassportParking first to Accept Bitcoin to Parking Meters

Bitcoin amid being consistent and slump in price from $1,000 USD in November, still its way to prove why we’ll love the existence of it and the convenience it brought more people. North Carolina–based cloud parking solutions provider PassportParking has announced that it will now allow parking operators to accept bitcoin payments for purchases.

PassportParking said that in doing so it will be the first company to facilitate bitcoin acceptance in exchange for parking at metered spaces and lots. The company serves 75 clients in 35 states, who now have the option to enroll in the service.

Explained PassportParking:

“Paying with bitcoins allows privacy–conscious customers to have the same form of ‘identity–less’ payments that they would have with coins or cash.

The move also benefits parking operators with near–zero merchant processing fees, increasing revenues without an additional cost for the parking customer.”

Bitcoin enthusiasts and owners might like the idea of this in where they can easily transfer payment just by clicking their own hand phones. Another first for bitcoin.
